Charlie Watts, 80, Passes Away

Music fans are in mourning following the death of Rolling Stones star, Charlie Watts.

In a statement released by Watt’s publicist on Tuesday, 24 August, the 80-year drummer peacefully passed away with his family around him at a London hospital earlier that day.

The statement reads: “Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also, as a member of the Rolling Stones, one of the greatest drummers of his generation.”

The cause of death is unknown, although Watts underwent an unspecified medical procedure earlier this month.

Since the Rolling Stones’ formation in 1963, Watts has been the “heart and soul” of the band, helping them to create timeless hits such as “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Paint It Black” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”. He was also noted for his quiet ways and sharp fashion sense.

Fans and music heavyweights have all paid tribute to the late drummer, including band-mates Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards – on Twitter, Jagger shared a photo of a smiling Watts playing the drums.

Richards also tweeted a photo, which shows a drum-kit with a “Closed” sign adorning it.

Watts is survived by his wife Shirley, their daughter Seraphina, and their granddaughter Charlotte.
